A. Objectives

To inspire students’ computational thinking and other 21st century skills through interactive and interesting coding puzzles and graphic novels of the eResource.

To encourage students to unleash their creativity in writings or comic drawings, and enhance their language competencies in terms of reading and writing.

To promote innovative learning and teaching by integrating coding, reading and writing into the lessons.

To help teachers easily implement cross-subject activities for stimulating students’ learning interest.
B. Innovative Learning and Teaching Journey

Teachers may refer to the suggested lesson plan and make good use of Dystopia 2153 to design a 3-week innovative learning experience for students to acquire cross-subject knowledge and 21st century skills through graphic novels and coding puzzles.

Teachers may encourage students to join ‘Read to Code: Writing and Comic Drawing Competition’ as an extended learning activity for wrapping up the lessons, so as to consolidate and evaluate the learning and teaching effectiveness.

Create a unique ending for a designated story in writings or comic drawings.

Primary : 300 – 500 words (either in Chinese or English)

Secondary: 500 – 750 words (either in Chinese or English)

Primary: 8 frame comics (Max. 2 sheets of A4 paper)

Secondary: 16 frame comics (Max. 4 sheets of A4 paper)

Screen resolution: at least 842 x 595 px for each A4 paper
Scan resolution: at least 200 dpi
Topic
Escape from the Rathouse – The year is 2153. In a world run by evil bots, it’s dangerous to be human. Lance, Freya, and their friends are trapped in the Rathouse Orphanage. Will they escape or will the evil Harry Mole and BASH catch them?
Application and Enrolment Procedure
1. Teachers could enrol in the competition at application page.
2. The trial account of Dystopia 2153 will be provided to teacher in-charge within 7 working days after application*.
3. Teachers could utilise the assigned trial account to create and distribute accounts for students to experience the platform*.
4. Apply the suggested lesson plan with read-to-code pedagogy and experience the innovative learning and teaching with students.
5. Download templates for students’ submission and encourage them to join the competition as an assessment summary as well as a chance for getting awarded.
6. Collect all students’ works and upload their works as one file at submission page.
*Remark:
The trial accounts are only available for teachers and students to use during the competition period.
