農業生物技術講座系列(五)農業中的昆蟲和其他節肢動物:田野調查、生物技術及基因組學

主辦機構 / 推薦機構: 香港種子技術及教育中心

Description: Understanding and utilizing biological interactions with plants are important to improve the yield of agricultural products. Conventional research in this field focused on the interactions between plants and microbes. While studying this aspect of interaction remains an important research area, the biological interactions of plants with insects are gaining attention in recent years. For instance, under global climate change, the abundance and distribution of both beneficial insects and agricultural pests are changing, which in turn impact agricultural products at different places differently.
This talk will share several laboratory studies carried out, including a field survey of insects in local farms, genetics studies in insects in light to make new biotechnological applications, and genomics studies in establishing new models in agriculture, to shed light on these neglected areas. The target audience includes international scholars, researchers, agricultural industry as well as the general public.
