Jane Eyre is a novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë. It follows the emotions and experiences of its title character Jane, including her growth to adulthood and her love for Mr. Rochester, the Byronic master of fictitious Thornfield Hall.
Jane Eyre revolutionised the art of fiction. Charlotte Brontë has been called the 'first historian of the private consciousness'. In 2003, the novel was ranked number 10 in the BBC's survey The Big Read.
