American vs. British Words

Some words have totally different meanings in two English-speaking countries.

  • 22Crisps? In the States, they're chips!
  • 23Oh. So, if I want to order our chips in America, what do I ask for?
  • 24French fries!
  • 25I see.
  • 26And you know what that is, don't you?
  • 27A fizzy drink.
  • 28That's a soda!
  • 29You know the lift over there?
  • 30Yeah?
  • 31That's an elevator.
  • 32Oh, really?
  • 33You know, in the States, you don't go to watch a film.
  • 34You watch a movie!
  • 35Exactly! And you don't walk on the pavement.
  • 36You walk on the sidewalk!
  • 37You got it!
