American vs. British Words

Some words have totally different meanings in two English-speaking countries.
- 1Hey! Nice pants!
- 2Excuse me?
- 3I said nice pants.
- 4You can't see my pants, can you?
- 5Of course I can.
- 6How can you see my pants?
- 7They're on your legs!
- 8You haven't been to America recently, have you?
- 9Well, I have actually.
- 10I've just got back from LA.
- 11That's Los Angeles, by the way.
- 12I know.
- 13Yeah, I picked up some of the American words and now I forget which ones to use!
- 14So confusing!
- 15Well, we call these trousers in Britain.
- 16Of course we do.
- 17You know, there are so many things though,...
- 18...it's like a completely different language sometimes.
- 19Really?
- 20Yeah!
- 21Would you like a crisp?
- 22Crisps? In the States, they're chips!
- 23Oh. So, if I want to order our chips in America, what do I ask for?
- 24French fries!
- 25I see.
- 26And you know what that is, don't you?
- 27A fizzy drink.
- 28That's a soda!
- 29You know the lift over there?
- 30Yeah?
- 31That's an elevator.
- 32Oh, really?
- 33You know, in the States, you don't go to watch a film.
- 34You watch a movie!
- 35Exactly! And you don't walk on the pavement.
- 36You walk on the sidewalk!
- 37You got it!
- 38I've watched a lot of films. Oops, movies
