- Study hard for HKCEE

§ Research on schools and different majors
§ Obtain college application forms (most can be requested online)
§ Note different application options
§ Check schedules of college entrance exams and obtain registration forms if necessary
§ Start preparing for TOEFL and SAT I

 

  Form 6
- September to October
§ Pick schools
§ Decide whether to apply for Early Decision or Early Action (note deadline)
§ Register for fall tests
§ Request transcript from school
§ Ask at least two school teachers for recommendations
§ Prepare and send applications if admission is rolling or applying for Early Decision

- November to December
§ Register for the last college entrance exams (if necessary)
§ Send all applications

- January
§ School to send mid-year report to colleges

Application Options

Traditional Application
- Prepare and send in applications the traditional way, i.e. by mail

Common Application
- The Common Application simplifies the college application process for students by allowing them to use one form to apply to a number of schools
- The Common Application is accepted by over 200 colleges
- A student only needs to fill out the application once and may then send photocopies to each school
- The Common Application details are available online at www.commonapp.org

Electronic Application
- Allows a student to use a computer to complete an application by either producing a hard copy (to be mailed to the school) or sending the application instantly on-line
- Electronic applications may be obtained from the colleges which use them, from electronic bulletin boards on the web, or from private companies that have produced electronic applications for colleges and universities
