Research university

- usually larger and offer a wider range of academic disciplines such as engineering, business, humanities, fine arts and natural science programs

- research is a top priority for many faculty members

- many of the classes could be taught by teaching assistants who are themselves graduate students

- research universities sometimes do not require students to complete a core curriculum since many programs require specialization
