The course will focus on the challenge of diversity for English Language teaching in Hong Kong schools. It will help participants: 1. understand the very different characteristics of the student populations in Hong Kong Schools, and consider how teachers can help them maximize their progress in speaking, reading and writing English; 2. grasp issues related to cognition, metacognition, memory and background for language learners who may be finding the normal English Language curriculum problematic; 3. evolve management, accommodation and helping strategies for the diverse populations of students studying English in Hong Kong schools; 4. consider support strategies for students with Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder; whilst also 5. take full account of multi-cultural and multi-linguistic factors and the Hong Kong policy of the Whole School Approach to Integrated Education.
