Details:

To prepare students for the New Senior Secondary English Language curriculum, it is essential for teachers to build a firm foundation for students by developing their language and generic skills, and expose them to a great variety of text-types through different NSS electives. To enhance students¡¦ confidence and motivation, the Language Learning Support Section has worked with schools to plan their curriculum systematically and holistically both at Key Stage 3 and 4.

The one-day workshop comprises lectures and practices which covers the following topics:
1. The medium is the message (´CÅé´N¬O°T®§)
(i) Introduction of the latest media scene and how they operate with reference to school matters.
2. You are the message (§A´N¬O°T®§) ¡V strategy and concept for effective spokesmen in dealing with different forms of media
(i) Media handling strategies on different media (conventional mass media/ the NEW media operating via the Internet) and different occasions: How to form the best possible line-to-take and stick with it to safe guard one¡¦s position and image especially in the wake of demanding or crisis situations.
(ii)Do¡¦s and Don¡¦ts when meeting the media and as a smart spokesperson.
3. Case study and sharing on controversial issues (includes education-related topics where appropriate) that attract wide media coverage.
(i)Possible ways to convert crises into opportunities through the influence of the mass media via case study of recent policy /government incidents and sharing with a veteran journalist specialized in education news.
4. Role-plays
(i)Simulation exercise by which participants will be teamed up in groups to tackle some emerging issues that may accelerate to become crises if not handled well. Participants will be required to prepare and issue press releases as well as sending their spokesmen to be interviewed in tackling the assigned scenarios supported by practical tools
