  • Use the interrogative adverbs 'where' to ask about location, e.g. Where are you come from? Where do you live?
  • Use the interrogative pronoun ‘what’ to find out specific information about a person, object or event, e.g. What do you do? I’m a magician.
Listening:
  • Identify the gist or main ideas by recognising the stress in connected speech
  • Use audio clues (tone, volume), contextual clues and knowledge of the world to work out the meanng of simple spoken texts

Brief Description:
An ETV programme about comparing different phrases used in British English and American English


User Tips:

  • Teachers can use the world map or pictures of national flag to introduce the two nations, the United States of America and Britain.
  • Introduce the programme and the characters, Peter and Diana. Explain to the class that the American and British people speak different English in terms of the choice of words. They have different names for some things.
  • Students can look for and listen to the names of things while watching the programme. 
  • After watching the programme, students can complete 'COPYMASTER 2a' to find out different names for the same thing.
  • Students can watch another ETV programme, 'What Went Wrong' to find out the difference in spelling some words in American English and British English.
