A
survey has found that television was the most popular mass medium
among students. To encourage students to make better use of TV in
learning English, Hong Kong Education City (HKedCity) has collaborated
for the second year with the Standing Committee on Language Education
and Research (SCOLAR) to present a year-long English-learning project
-- "English in the Air".
In
this project, 4 TV programmes suitable for teenagers are selected
to be aired on TVB Pearl and ATV World starting from October 2003
to June 2004.These programmes are: Road Scholars, Lizzie McGuire,
Smallville (season 1) and Sail Away. HKedCity has designed a mini-website
(http://www.hkedcity.net/english/tv)
housing practical teaching and learning resources for these TV programmes.
To let teachers understand more about the project, a series of identical
workshops and seminars will be organized. The first one will be
held on 17 October 2003 ( Friday) from 5:00pm
to 7:00pm at Reading Land, 2/F, Park
Building, 476 Castle Peak Road, Kowloon. An experienced teacher
from an international school who worked with local students in Hong
Kong for over 10 years shall share with you his experience in encouraging
students to watch healthy TV programmes to learn English. A discussion
session will also be included, allowing all participating teachers
to share their difficulties and methods in teaching students to
learn from watching TV. In addition, we will explain how to make
use of the teaching package we specifically design for you on this
project.
If
you are interested, kindly go to our website http://www.hkedcity.net/english/tv/registration
and register online before the registration deadline which is 15
October 2003. Since the number of seats is limited, registrations
will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Successful
applicants would be notified by email. If you have further enquires,
please contact our senior project officer Adrienne Chung at 2624-1022
or 2624-1026.
With best regards
