| I
refer to my previous email communication introducing to you the
"English in the Air - 2003/04" project that the
Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) is
conducting with sponsorship from the Language Fund in the current
school year.
The
first programme series on TVB Pearl, "Road Scholars",
finished on 26 November 2003. The second programme series on the
channel, "Lizzie McGuire", will follow from 3 December
2003 to 28 April 2004 in the same timeslot of 6:50pm to 7:20pm every
Wednesday. Concurrently, the first programme series on ATV World,
"Smallville (season 1)", is being shown on Saturdays
at 2:10pm to 3:00pm until 6 March 2004.
Among
the various learning and teaching resources developed by HKedCity
for the project and hosted on the "English in the Air" website (www.hkedcity.net/english/tv),
I would like to draw your attention especially to the on-line games
based on each week's episodes. Aiming to raise students' interest
in watching the four television programmes involved in the project,
these interesting games offer attractive prizes, including overseas
study trips and English language resources, to students as well
as schools. So far, students from over 180 schools are already participating
in the games. We hope your students will join their counterparts
in other schools in case they have not already done so.
In
addition, three "Cultural Days" are being organized
in December 2003, February and April 2004 to enable local students
to get together with international students in cultural exchange
activities such as cooking, dance, cultural crafts, folklore, and
so on. Each "Cultural Day" will focus on a different
theme. Registration for the activity has commenced. It can be made
on-line or by fax. Please visit "http://www.hkedcity.net/article/tv2-teachers/culture/"
for details.
Another
activity called "My Future Days" will be organized for students
to meet professionals from various fields. It will give students
an excellent opportunity to learn more about future career possibilities
in an informal environment.
If
you have any enquires about "Cultural Days" and
"My Future Days", please contact Ms Adrienne Chung
of HKedCity by phone at 2624 1022 or 2624 1026.
I
would appreciate it very much if you would help promote the project
in your school, and strongly encourage both your students and teachers
to take advantage of the project and participate in the games and
activities involved.
If
you have any questions or need any further information on the "English
in the Air - 2003/04" project, please feel free to contact Ms Subrina
Chow or Ms Louisa Yam of the SCOLAR Support Unit by phone at 2892
6558, fax at 2801 7732 or email at pce@edb.gov.hk.
Yours faithfully
