Teen Life in America - Do you drive to school?

America is not like Hong Kong. Public transport is not good outside of cities. Most people drive cars everywhere.

In Smallville, most of the students have cars. Some students in America drive to school! Cars and petrol are very cheap. In America, petrol is called “gas”. Here are the ages that people can start driving in different places.

USA - 15 to 17 (depends on state)
Canada - 16
UK - 17
Hong Kong, the Philippines, Spain - 18

Some people think Americans start driving too young. They cause many accidents. Here are some facts about 15-to-20-year-old American drivers in 2002.

324,000 were hurt in car accidents.
8,278 were seriously hurt in car accidents.
3,827 died because of car accidents.

You can see these sad figures here:

We are lucky to have the MTR and KCR in Hong Kong!
