Teen Life In America - Playing Pop Music

At the Spring Formal in this week's episode, there is a band playing. In Western countries, many young people start bands. They learn to play the guitars, drums and piano. At first, they usually play their favourite singers’ songs. Later, they try to write their own songs.

Computers in music ( http://vtg.org/cimonline/ )
You can learn how to make music on your computer here. Click on "Tunes" to hear some music. Click on "Frequently Asked Questions" to find out about making music.

The Beatles ( http://www.thebeatles.com/ )
The most famous band ever, The Beatles, started like this. They played cover-versions (other people’s songs) then wrote their own songs, such as Yesterday, Love Me Do and Let It Be.

The website has information about their songs and videos of their first tour to America.

Genre Sampler ( http://datadragon.com/education/genres/ )
This website features seven different types of music to listen to: jazz, rock, classical, reggae, celtic, country and blues. You should find something you like.

American Idol ( http://idolonfox.com/ )
This is a really popular show right now. Each week, people try to sing a song. Judges tell them what they think. Sometimes, the singers are terrible! One person wins. At the end of the series, there is one overall winner. He or she can make a record.

In the UK, the winners usually have No. 1 hit records.

Click on "Bios and Video Clips" to hear the singers for yourself. Maybe you could do better!
