Teen Life in America

School in America is a little different to school in Hong Kong.

There are three levels of school.
1. Elementary School (or Grade School) Like Primary School
2. Junior High (or Middle School) Like Forms 1-3
3. High School Like Forms 4-6


Students usually do not wear uniforms. The atmosphere is quite relaxed.

Most classes have about 25-30 students.

In some schools, students call the teachers by their first names.

The students have long summer holidays, usually for three months.

There are no HKCEEs, but there are two tests a year. Teachers set the final exams.

To go to university, students must pass an SAT, Standard Aptitude Test. It tests English, Maths and general knowledge. Many students take extra courses to teach them how to do well in this test.

However, if someone is very good at sports, art or other extra-curricular activities, this helps him or her get into a good university.
