Students
start arriving in the Bahamas. Can you remember the names
of everyone on the boat? Click on the "Who's
on the boat?" section to remind you.
Read about the 2nd episode of Sail Away. How much of it did you remember?
The
two boats are going to Allan's Cay in the Bahamas.
The
kids on the Simpatico boat, Aubrey, Geo and Charlotte, are becoming
good friends.
On
the Buridan, Alex can put her feet behind her head!
Everyone
goes to a beach. They see iguanas, which are big lizards.
They
learn about iguanas but find it hard to play with them. Iguanas
are not social.
They
put up tents, which takes a long time.
The
kids must still do school work. Geo prefers working on a boat
to working at school.
They
find hermit crabs and Elie even touches one.
There
are no bathrooms and most of the kids don't like this.
Also,
a lot of the kids have jelly fish stings and bug bites.
Elie
cries because she has so many bites. She also has sunburn. On
the other hand, Alex doesn't mind her bites.
The
kids go diving for conch, big shellfish.
They
must take out, clean and cook the conch to eat. They even have
to bite it to take off the skin. It tastes like "bad chicken"!
At
the end, they have a big fire on the beach. Everyone talks about
his or her experiences. The instructors said it was a hard first
week but everyone did well.
The
students also thought it was hard but most of them are happy
to be there.
