Dolphins

The kids get to swim with dolphins this week. They learn some interesting facts about dolphins. Here are three facts:
Dolphins are actually whales with teeth.
Older females often have spots.
They can swim up to 25km per hour.

1. Hong Kong Dolphinwatch Ltd. (http://www.hkdolphinwatch.com/)
You can find out about pink dolphin in Hong Kong. They can take you on tours to see the pink dolphins. The website has pictures and facts about pink dolphins.

2. National Geographic (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/kids/creature_feature/0108/dolphins.html)
National Geographic is a magazine and TV Channel on Cable TV. The website has lots of interesting information. This site has a video which tells us how dolphins communicate using echolocation.

3. Dolphins are clever! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/animals/newsid_2886000/2886535.stm)
BBC Newsround has a video of dolphins being used to find mines (underwater bombs) in Iraq. The site also has links to more dolphin sites.

4. The Dolphin Institute (http://www.dolphin-institute.org/)
This website has lots of information about dolphins and whales. You can learn about bottlenose dolphins here.

5. Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (http://www.wdcs.org/)
A lot of dolphins die because they get stuck in fisherman's nets. You can learn about this problem here and find ways that you can help.
