Gordo is into lounge music, which was a big hit in the late 1950s & the early 1960s. To Lizzie, this is music for her great grandfather, not for normal people like herself.

When everybody at school decides Gordo's new passion in the oldies is the next "in" thing to jump on, he decides not to be a part of the new fad.

Lizzie can't figure out why Gordo always wants to be different, and why he won't just do what normal people do.

Characters

Lizzie

Miranda
Gordo Kate
Ethan
Matt, Jo & Sam

Lizzie

Lizzie picks up a new Rat Pack CD for Gordo, and tells others she doesn't listen to that kind of music. When others say it's cool stuff, she tells them she's an expert in it.

The school's Dance Committee decides to make the month's dance a Rat Pack theme. They ask Lizzie the expert to come up with a list of the songs the DJ should play during the dance. She says no problem.

The problem is: She doesn't have any idea what those songs are. She also fears that Gordo's not going to be too crazy about helping her.

Miranda

Miranda tells Gordo to stop talking like people in Las Vegas in 1960. Then she talks like that to show she's an expert in lounge culture.

The Dance Committee will have a costume contest in Friday's dance, and asks Miranda for a list of the kind of outfits the judges should be looking for.

Together with Lizzie, she asks Gordo for a list of twenty Frank Sinatra tunes, pictures of the clothes people wore back in those years, and the Rat Pack's favourite food. Gordo tells Miranda & Lizzie they are the big Rat Pack fans, and they should know.

Gordo

When everybody wants to be seen listening to Frank Sinatra & the Rat Pack, Gordo decides to move on to a new hobby: model airplanes.

He says he's not a superficial popularity-junkie or just another mindless trend-oids following the herd. He's his own person, he makes up his own mind, and he does things his own way.

Then he turns up at the dance wearing a lounge suit, a hat tilted on his head, & a raincoat over his shoulders. And, he goes swinging on the dance floor with Lizzie, who feels she's flying in the sky.

Kate

Kate & the Dance Committee want Friday's dance to have a Rat Pack theme, and to be officially called Loungin' Around. She wants a really "lounge" event, completed with lounge music, lounge costumes, and lounge cocktails.

Lizzie thinks Little Miss Popular should get down on her knees and beg if she wants their help to make the dance a success.

Gordo thinks that there's nothing stupider than a Rat Pack Dance, and now that Kate likes the lounge stuff, it's officially a mindless fad.

Ethan

Ethan decides what's cool stuff.

To Lizzie, Ethan is totally hot. She's excited to finally get a chance to talk to him. When she talks to him, her heart pounds in her chest.

To Miranda, it's also exciting to have Ethan noticing them and believing that they're experts in the "coolsville" lounge music.

Matt, Jo & Sam

Matt & his new friend Lanny want to set a world record in something. They try everything, and still they've got nothing.

Jo tells them there is no record of failed attempts to set world records, and since they have failed many times to set a world record, perhaps they can set a world record in making failed attempts to set world records.
