It's
31 October, the Day of the Dead. On this day,
the spirits of the dead walk on earth.
A
Halloween party is on at school. The party is
called Fright Night.
Frightening
things happen at Fright Night. The evil spirits
awake. They come to take revenge!

| Lizzie |
|
Lizzie
wants to be the Vampire Dungeon Mistress at Fright
Night. She wants to look desirable, slinky & cool.
But then Kate decides Lizzie will be Floppy the
Clown to hand out balloons.
Lizzie
gives commands to the Day of the Dead skeletons
as if they were dogs. She tells the skeletons
to sic Kate, and then she will give them a bone.
In
the middle of Fright Night, the spirits take over
Lizzie's body, and turn her into a zombie.

| Miranda |
|
For
decoration at Fright Night, Miranda has miniature
skeletons from El Dia de los Muertos (Spanish
for The Day of the Dead), which is Halloween in
Mexico.
The
skeletons represent dead ancestors. People must
respect them and treat them well. Otherwise, the
spirits of the dead will get angry and take revenge.

| Gordo |
|
At
Fright Night, strange things happen. Everybody
is frightened, but Gordo is very sure no one woke
up the supernatural forces, no skeletons got up
& walked away, and no spirits are taking revenge.
"Come
on, spirits, turn me into dust!" he shouts.
Later,
people hear his voice coming from inside a little
doll. He says he doesn't know where he is, and
he can't see anything. He shouts for help.

| Kate
Sanders |
|
Kate
is in charge of the Party Committee. She decides
that Vampira should be someone tall & desirable,
and this is her.
She
calls the Day of the Dead skeletons stupid junk.
In the middle of Fright Night, they go after her
for revenge.
She
begs the spirits to forgive her. To show respect
for the dead, she covers herself with graveyard
dirt & blood, and performs the Dance of the Dead.

| Mrs
& Mr Sanchez |
|
Mrs
& Mr Sanchez, Miranda's parents, bring skulls
& skeletons to the school for use as decorations
in the Fright Night party.
Mr
Sanchez says the Day of the Dead is one of her
favourite holidays. Mrs Sanchez says that on El
Dia de los Muertos, in Mexico, people go to the
cemetery and have a meal with the dead. There're
also dances and all kinds of fun stuff. .

| Matt,
Jo & Sam |
|
Matt
plans to go trick-and-treating. He has a Halloween
battle plan to cover the houses that give out
the best candies. But Mom Jo & Dad Sam make him
go to the Fright Night party.
He
goes to the party dressed as himself inside-out,
with eyeballs & guts falling out. He eats the
food offering for the spirits of the dead. In
the middle of Fright Night, he turns into dust.
A
trick-or-treater comes to the McGuire house, but
there's no more candy. Jo gives the kid a chicken
pot-pie. Sam gets the pie on his face.
