The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, in collaboration
with the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, organized the
Election of 10 Engineering Wonders in Hong Kong in 2000. Members
of the public were invited to vote for the ten engineering items
they believed deserve the most recognition. All the winning items
are the masterpieces of the Hong Kong engineers and specially designed
for Hong Kong.
The 10 Engineering Wonders include some major infrastructure
such as Lantau
Link, Route 3, the
Passenger Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport and High
Island Water Scheme. Awardees are also spectacular buildings such
as Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Extension, HSBC Main
Building, Bronze
Buddha Statue and Chi Lin Nunnery. Last but not least, the MTR
System and the
Octopus Smart Card System, making people's life more convenient,
have won the recognition too.
