  • End of level 1 test for 2011/12 Web-based Learning Course on Earth Science, Astronomy, Mathematics and Paleontology will be launched from 6 Feb 2012 to 24 Feb 2012.

  • Results will be announced before 2 Mar 2012 in What's New Column of the main page of the web courses (http://gifted.edb.gov.hk/webcourse).

  • Students passing End of Level 1 Test can download / print the e-Certificate via What's New Column of the main page of the web courses (http://gifted.edb.gov.hk/webcourse) in Mar 2012.

2011/12 Mentorship Programme for graduates of Level 3 of the EDB Web-based Learning Course on Mathematics

The Gifted Education Section, Education Bureau has commissioned the Department of Mathematics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to stage a year-long Mentorship Programme on Mathematics for the 2011/12 school year as a follow-up programme for those Level 3 graduates (2010/11) of the EDB Web-based Learning Course on Mathematics. In the programme, students will engage in Mathematics research study, seminars, academic exchange, computational tasks and independent studies under the supervision of mentors from the Department of Mathematics, CUHK. The mentors will review students’ progress and discuss with each group of students in regular meetings.

This programme is recognized as an outreach course of the Science Faculty, CUHK. Upon the completion of this course, the student will accumulate a certain credit which may be part of the consideration for university admission. Click here to download the course outline and schedule.

Interested Level 3 graduates of the Mathematics Web-based Learning Course (2010/11) are required to download the Application Form and fax the completed form back to the Gifted Education Section (Fax no.: 2490 6858) on or before 19 September 2011. The application result will be released through email in late September 2011. The Mentorship Programme would commence in October 2011 and end in June 2012.

Mentorship Programme for graduates of Level 3 (2010/11) of the EDB Web-based Learning Course on Earth Science
  The Gifted Education Section, Education Bureau will organise a Mentorship Programme on Earth Science in 2012/13 school year as a follow-up programme to further nurture those graduates of the EDB Web-based Learning Course on Earth Science (Level 3, 2010/11). The programme comprises museum visit, intensive workshops and field trips. Programme participants with excellent performance will later be invited to join research projects under the supervision of university academics. The project mentors will review students’ progress and discuss with each group of students in regular meetings

It is believed that the Mentorship Programme may further enrich students’ Earth Science knowledge base, enhance higher order thinking and problem-solving skills through research-based learning and inspire the student participants to embark on a geosciences based career.

Interested Level 3 graduates of the Earth Science Course (2010/11) are required to download the Application Form and fax the completed form back to the Gifted Education Section (Fax no.: 2490 6858) on or before 17 October 2011. Students may be required to sit for a screening test if necessary after submission of the application form. The application result will be released through email around November 2011. The Mentorship Programme would commence in October/November 2012 and end in October 2013. Graduates of the Level 3 course (2011/12 school year) would also be invited to join this programme in due course.
   
2011/12 Mentorship Programme for graduates of Level 3 of the EDB Web-based Learning Course on Astronomy
  The Gifted Education Section, Education Bureau has commissioned the Department of Physics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong to stage a year-long Mentorship Programme on Astronomy for the 2011/12 school year as a follow-up programme for those Level 3 graduates (2009/10 & 2010/11 cohorts) of the EDB Web-based Learning Course on Astronomy. The programme comprises research projects on Artificial Satellites (人造衛星) , Simple Spectroscopy (簡單的光譜學), Galileo Satellites(伽利略衛星), Sunspots(太陽黑子) or Craters on Lunar Surface (月球的隕石坑). Student participants will work in groups to complete the research projects under the supervision of university academics. The mentors will review students’ progress and discuss with each group of students in regular meetings.

It is believed that the Mentorship Programme may help student participants learn more about scientific method, research method, the basic procedure of astronomical observation, data analysis, error analysis, astronomical theories and how these studies are related to society.

Interested Level 3 graduates of the Astronomy Course (2009/10 or 2010/11) are required to download the Application Form and fax the completed form back to the Gifted Education Section (Fax no.: 2490 6858) on or before 17 October 2011. Students may be required to sit for a screening test and/or an interview in November / December 2011 after submission of the application form. The application result will be released through email around December 2011. The Mentorship Programme would commence in January 2012 and end in October 2012.
