www.hkedcity.net, the largest one-stop professional educational portal in Hong Kong, is operated by the Hong Kong Education City Limited. The portal incorporates information, resources, interactive communities and online services, and promotes the use of information technology (I.T.) in improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning.

In 1998, Education and Manpower Bureau issued Information Technology for Learning in a New Era: Five-Year Strategy 1998/99 to 2002/03 to introduce I.T. into education. Sponsored by Quality Education Fund and promoted jointly by former Education Department and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Information Education City (predecessor of Hong Kong Education City Limited) launched its website in 2000. Professor Wong Po Choi of Department of Information Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong served as Director. Mr Ma Siu Leung, Chief Education Officer of the former Education Department (Information System), served as supervisor. Subsequently, the Hong Kong Education City Limited was incorporated in 2002, becoming a wholly owned company of the Government of HKSAR and has been supervised by a board of directors composed of government and non-government members.
Moving into the second decade of serving the education community, HKEdCity has renewed the vision of being the leading platform and network environment for learning and teaching, with significant international presence and strong local impact, in collaboration with partners, to:
- facilitate educational resources and information exchange, build up a professional community of teachers;
- deliver an engaging and rich learning experience for students; and
- empower parents to help their child to achieve balanced and whole person development.
From a long term perspective, HKEdCity will continue to work on advancing learning and teaching through a ubiquitous education environment that inspires teachers, students and parents to become life-long learners. |
