Book: Civil War on Sunday
Post Reading Activities

Activity:

The American Civil War (1861-1865) was fought because the Southern states did not agree with the Northern states on slavery (owning people without paying them). This war ended slavery in the United States when the Northerners won. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln convinced Congress (part of the government) to abolish slavery throughout the United States. However, this was a very cruel war. More people died in it than in all of American's other wars put together. One out of every five young men died or was wounded.

When there are conflicts between people, how can they resolve them? Should we solve problems with violence or through peaceful means? What do you do if you have a problem with other people?
