Poverty

In the Chief Executive's Policy Address 2005, reducing inter-generational poverty is one of the areas Hong Kong has to deal with. Statistics from Social Welfare Department have shown that the number of children receiving comprehensive social security assistance has reached 120,000 over the past four years. Do you know that there are lots of people in Hong Kong not having enough to eat every day? Some students also do not have extra money to take part in extra-curricular activities after school. Their leisure time is spent on helping out with household chores as their parents need to work for long hours to earn more money to support the family. Read below the true story of Man Lai, whose after-school life may be very different from yours because of the tight family finance. So, if you know a fellow classmate who does not have bright clothes to wear and does not have a nice-looking schoolbag, do not despise them. Don¡¦t take it for granted that we can have food and other luxuries every day. Learn to share your love with those in need!
