It¡¦s 2064A.D. and students still need to write
English journals. Yan¡¦s journal was her teacher¡¦s
favourite. Did her great-great-grandmother steal
or swap milk?
Well Mrs. Wong, I¡¦ve got something exciting to
write in my journal this week. My great-great-grandmother
Elaine is 118 years old. We call her GE (Great
Elaine). Last month, she walked slowly to FitMart
to buy some milk. It¡¦s funny! I was learning
about FitMarts in History. Everyone shopped
online and got really lazy. The government opened
the FitMarts in 2039 to make people get exercise
by buying food in shops again.
Anyway,
GE got home and saw that her milk was out of
date. Like most 100-plusers, she hates speaking
to robot shop assistants. So GE tried to replace
the milk herself. The alarm sounded when she
left and the police were there in 3.42 minutes
to arrest her for shoplifting.
The
trial
was 5 days later. Android Judge No. 244 was
sitting. Luckily, GE had a human jury.
¡§Ms. Elaine Chan, you are accused
of stealing milk from FitMart No. 468 at 5.23p.m
on 4 April, 2064. Here is the evidence.¡¨
FitMart No. 468 appeared before us. Everyone
quickly put on their 3Ders. We saw GE take milk
from her bag and swap it with milk on the shelf.
It was very slow.
¡§How
do you plead?¡¨
asked the judge. ¡§Guilty or too old to know
what you were doing?¡¨
¡§Not
guilty your android!¡¨ answered GE confidently.
We all gasped. ¡§I was swapping, not stealing.
Those robots keep trying to sell out-of-date
milk.¡¨ We all cheered. An old man with really
long white hair started shouting and throwing
bananas everywhere. Justice for all! The android
judge¡¦s head shot out and looked down on him.
¡§Stop!¡¨
Forty police officers dragged him away and the
judge flew back to join his body.
¡§Members
of the jury, have you reached a decision? I
should tell you that 91.6% of online viewers,
sponsored by FitMart, found Ms. Chan really
guilty.¡¨
The
leader of the jury stood up nervously to read
the verdict.
We find Ms. Chan ¡K
Can
you guess the verdict Ms. Wong?
