Info Ahoy matey! So you want
to be a pirate! Read this website and I might let you on my ship. First,
you can learn some pirate talk and see a great ship in Hong Kong. Then help
me to unscramble my favourite pirate tale.
The
Adventure Ship
Hong
Kong has its own ship which teaches youngsters
how to sail. The Adventure Ship started training
Hong Kong students in 1978. Founder Dr. Philip
Ney wanted to train youngsters to sail and to
teach them life skills, such as being independent
and working with others.
Participants can go for
a full day or even stay on the boat overnight.
They learn how to put up sails, clean the deck,
cook and possibly even go into the captain・s
wheelhouse. Over 40 students are needed to put
up the main sail! The bunk beds are quite small
but comfortable. The ship slowly moves in the
sea as you sleep.
The best part of the
day is jumping off the ship like this.
The
Bunk Beds
Most
of the participants are young people and
often have physical disabilities. Captain
Ho and his crew are very patient yet make
sure that young people work together and
challenge themselves. You can find out
more at their
homepage.
English Campus
reporters Lynette and Shirley visited
the ship a few years ago. Choose an episode
at the bottom of the page under .Tour
of the Ship・. You
can learn the parts of a ship and see
where participants sleep. Episode 7 has
features the toilet!!!
Talk
like a pirate
We
pirates have our own special language.
Here are the most important words
and phrases. Use the back of your
throat to talk, as if you are an
angry bear.
Treasure
Island is the best story ever. Pirate captain Long
John Silver is my hero. Young Jim Hawkins has a
treasure map and Silver, as well as
Black Dog, wants
the treasure. My
copy fell into the
sea and it got all
mixed up. Can
you help me put
this part in the
correct order?

I went back
into the room.
The Captain had a short heavy sword called a cutlass.
He raised the cutlass and ran
towards Black Dog.
Black Dog ran out of the room.
The Captain chased him and swung
his cutlass at Black Dog・s head.
But the Captain didn・t hit him.
The cutlass hit the wooden sign
above the inn door.
