Alex Cardenas comes from Argentina. He is living in Hong Kong for a year, studying at PLK Vicwood KT Chong Sixth Form College through AFS Intercultural Exchanges.
Alex Cardenas is living in Sha Tin. Alex loves Hong Kong food. He has dim sum with his host family most Sundays. Cha shui bau (barbecued pork dumpling) is his favourite. Alex told us about popular Argentinean food and drinks below.

Asado
Asado is the most popular and important food in Argentina. We usually eat it on National Day, birthdays and family gatherings. We grill the beef and sausages on a coal fire. In some places, they eat lamb. It is like a barbecue but much bigger.

Empanadas
This is a very popular kind of food in Argentina. It's a pastry with meat, eggs, vegetables and dry grapes inside. They are either baked or fried.
Locro
This is a thick soup made of beans and corn. Vegetables, sausages, beef, pork and sometimes chicken are added. I love this soup in winter because it keeps me warm.

Tamales
This is traditional food from North Argentina. Beef, corn, vegetables and dry grapes are wrapped in corn skins and steamed. Delicious!

Mate or Yerba Mate
I feel mate is the most important symbol of Argentina, being a sign of friendship and hospitality . It is a special kind of tea of a plant in the north of Argentina (not the same as a tea plant). Argentineans have been drinking this for 150 to 200 years. When friends visit my family, we usually serve mate.

Here are pictures of me and my family in Argentina.
My parents with my sister.
They are probably drinking mate at the moment!
