This is Marilyn Li. She runs a bakery in Sai Kung. Find out what you can buy there and how she makes her shop successful. |
I opened my own bakery in 2002. My sister is a baker and I have run shops before. Many Europeans live in Sai Kung and they are our main customers. We also get locals, especially students, Filipinos, Japanese and Koreans.
We start baking at 5a.m. Everything is usually sold by 6p.m. We have many types of bread. They are mostly European in style and not as sweet as local bread. I only buy the highest quality ingredients, usually from Australia and America. It's expensive but the bread tastes much better.

Our most popular items are sausage rolls, sweet Spanish buns, cheesecakes, muffins, shepherd's pie (minced beef with mashed potatoes) and all types of bread. We also sell pastas, olive oil, ham, pizza and frozen meals, such as curries. I'm always looking for new items to sell. We let regular customers try new products and ask them what they think.
Everyone who works here is friendly to customers. I treat them like friends. That encourages them to come back and we enjoy chatting to people. I am from the Philippines. I can speak Tagalog, English and Cantonese so most customers can talk to me. |
| I find this a challenging but rewarding career. Selling products that customers enjoy is rewarding. Here are photos of some of our products. |

This is rye bread. We can slice it for you. Brown bread is getting more popular as people worry about their health more. We also have 'low carbohydrate' bread. |
Our cheesecakes are delicious. This is a blueberry cheesecake. I'm sure HKedCity staff will enjoy eating it ! |
