In Meg Cabot’s novels, almost all main girl characters have a strong personality. Although they have their own problems, they will solve it finally. And they have strong views on everything – especially the stupid things on the earth.

As these girls are keen on thinking and analysing, and never follow the trends, you may wonder if their creator is a middle-aged woman and a professional academia. Then you are wrong. Meg is elegant, beautiful, fashionable, and above all, smart.

Meg's novels are hilarious and highly imaginative, yet much attached to teenagers' real life. Most stories are based on her own experience when she was young, but she now keeps 'spying' on teenagers' messages on forums, watching teenagers' shows, reading teens' magazines and websites to keep track on their trends. She noticed that even though the communication technology advances a lot from texts to phones to computers to mobile phones, teenagers' problems in every single ages are all the same. That's why her books capture so many fans' hearts because the problems the main characters encountered are exactly what the readers really face in everyday life – gossiping, homework and exams, outlook and fashion, love life...

Meg has written more than 50 books sold to 38 countries and circulation reached 15 million copies, including the most popular teenage series "Princess Diaries" and the triology "Air Head".

Meg and the princess

She started writing "Princess Diaries" in 1998 and got it published in 2000. It’s not easy to get this "now-love-by-million" series published at that time since no publisher was interested in it! Though finally it got published, Meg had to change her original plan of writing 16 "Princess Diaries" instead.

However, miracle happened. It’s like Mia Thermopolis suddenly got to know she’s the princess of Genovia, the book attracted Walt Disney pictures who later put it on screen. This rescued Meg’s original idea to continue to write for the series.

After 10 years the final book has been published. As Meg said, the beginning and the ending of the series have been confirmed since the very first idea happened, but the body were filled in later on and many unexpected things happened in-between.

Above all, she needed to face hassles brought by her dad’s sickness, her mum’s new romance, her dream boys and all the school gossips. Who could help her? The diary did!
